Philips Hue Halloween Lighting Setup with Ring Video Doorbell 2 and Ring Chime
Halloween is by far one of my most favorite Holidays and every year while setting up the decorations, I start planning for the next one. If you don’t know, I’m really big into tech and home automation. So when it comes time for the holidays, its pretty easy to make some cool scenes and set triggers with the smart devices you already have.
The ones that I’ll be using today to start setting up for this year are...
The Ring team has made some pretty cool sounds this year that allow you to have a Halloween sound played when someone rings your door bell or the device senses motion, instead of your traditional doorbell sounds. The nice thing about it is that you can go basic and just trigger one sound within the Ring app itself, or you can incorporate different apps like IFTT and Hue Halloween to elevate the experience. I just realized that I haven’t said anything sarcastic yet...weird.
As you’ll see in the video, the set up between the Ring Doorbell and the Chime are super easy. You open the app, scan the code, link it and set your sound. That’s. It.
After you take the less than one minute it takes to set this thing up, you’ll be able to choose if you’d like the sound to be triggered if someone physically rings the doorbell or just by the device sensing motion. For the front door I have it set to (scream) when someone presses the doorbell and strobe the overhead light. However on normal nights in the back, I have our stick up cam set to turn all of the lights around the property on if it is triggered after 9pm or dusk, just like if there is motion in the garage. You can get as elaborate as you want on this by setting as many triggers as you want and also incorporating a smart plug(s) into the mix.
If you have the Hue lighting system, you should check out the Hue Halloween app. If you don’t...you should go get it. Both of them. Here’s the link to Hue...again. Go get it.
The system itself is great and I’ve had it for years. But the app comes alive when your incorporate color bulbs into the mix. Don’t get me wrong, the white ones are cool but you’ll see what I mean when you see the end of three video.
This week I’ll be incorporating smart plugs like the ones below into the mix by triggering a fog machine that I found on Amazon and some other things.
I hope this video gave you some inspiration and ideas for your house this year and I’d love to see what you have done as well. If the ring camera catches any funny reactions I’ll be sure to share them, so check back for that video. Happy haunting everyone!
